*gulp* This is the last drabble I have written. I'd better get to work on things for the next three days...

Lucifer - Imagine

  Imagine being Severed from His Presence, feeling that raw, gaping chasm in your core, like an empty vessel that has lost its purpose. Imagine the pain of Falling, watching the light of the Silver City become a distant and unattainable star, feeling flames scorch your wings, adding more pain to your agony. And the impact, crashing into that barren, fiery realm you now rule, organising that rabble of scared, hurt, Fallen angels, remaking them so the pain is lessened and they can make themselves useful. Ruling a realm of eternal pain and torture, after having basked in His love.

  Imagine.

And then you wonder: The whole "Better to reign in Hell..." thing, does he really believe that? And how much of it is to make himself feel better about the whole business?

I think that by now he tells himself that he believes in it. ;) I suppose it helps him deal with it, because really, being cut off from God when you're closest to Him...

I don't think he could function as ruler of Hell if he honestly let himself feel this beyond the period immediately after he Fell, so yes, he sort of believes it. I don't think he'd want to return to Heaven even if he could, but I doubt he likes his realm much either.

I haven't read far into the Lucifer series -- just up to the issue introducing Elaine, who is HOLY CRAP AWESOME. Though I've been noticing I've been running into that character type a lot: precocious, slightly sinister, terribly pragmatic little girls. There's Coraline, and Lyra Belacqua, and Tiffany Aching from Discworld...

:D :D :D YES SHE IS. Tell me when you're done so I can gush about it with you! Lucifer himself is SO AWESOME in it. And ooh, Coraline and Tiffany! I love those two. <3 (I've only read The Golden Compass, some years back; couldn't get my hands on the second one and didn't want to jump ahead and read the third)
